Click on this link The Lido des Champs-Elysees Cabaret to go to the most authoritative and interesting website about this incredible Parisian Cabaret. After reading and viewing photographs, it will be apparent why anything connected to this club is highly sought, especially this 'Program' and the 'Fan / Program' in the following post.

Image Watermarking:
Watermarking has been added to the photographs below to protect this original vintage Le Lido Program from being  'reproduced and sold' as much as possible. This Program will be sold and I feel it's exclusivity should be protected for the next owner to decide what they wish to do with their property. I realize viewing the images through watermarking is an inconvenience...however I am sure it's new owner will certainly appreciate it's protection!

We've owned this Fan / Program for the Lido des Champs Elysees Cabaret for probably 40 years. We have always had the Fam encased in a two sided glass frame to protect it. We also have an original menu from the cabaret of the same vintage purchased together with this Fan/Program. The Menu was probably saved as a souvenir along with the Fan / Program by the same original owner.

The fan is extremely fragile having been made out of very thin paper and applied onto a metal frame. On the backside there is a spot where apparently glue had been applied, probably to mount into a large scrapbook. The fan is 15" high and 6-1/2" wide.

I have only seen one other fan like this and that is in the online Paris Museum of Arts & Decorations website.

Myung 'Mario' Jung ~ Early Impressionist Native American Chief

Myung Mario Jung

Early Impressionist Native American Chief

ca. 1980s

Available Soon for Purchase

This is an extremely rare impressionistic work by famed Master South Korean Artist Mario Jung. Early in Mario's career, he was fascinated by the American West and began painting scenes depicting the American west.

Mario produced many paintings of Pueblo scenes of dwellings & pottery which, unfortunately are not highly sought after. His stunningly realist life art i.e. Ballerina and this impressionistic Native American Chief art is an entirely different world for collectors. These works by Mario are so rare they are considered his uncommon works and when discovered, are quickly placed into private collections. This is one of those rare pieces by Master Mario!

Mario has since used his mastery of art to produce stunning transcendental pastoral settings which has attracted a strong following with some of his works being offered in well-known & boutique galleries in excess of $9,000.

It is noted that art of the old Native American West has always had a strong following, even global. The interest becomes intense when a notable master artist applies his creative genius to the canvas and creates a dynamic impressionistic portrait that demands attention from its intense visual character!

History: This vintage textured sand/oil painting on canvas had been removed from its stretcher, then rolled, causing vertical & other cracks of varying degrees in the painting. Later in its life span, the canvas had been un-rolled and placed into an inexpensive frame under plexiglass. This then was the 'un-cared' for condition we found it in when we purchased it.

We couldn't help but look past its deplorable condition. We knew we were looking at a masterful work of art! We didn't know who the artist was and in fact, it took a year before we were able to decipher its signature mark, with help, that this painting was an early Mario Jung impressionist work.

Recently, we brought the painting to one of the top fine art framing shops in Las Vegas, NV and had the canvas pressed & sheet bonded to a backer board & framed. The framing gallery performed nearly a miracle with this canvas. The cracks have nearly become invisible to the eye. It's strong appeal of feeling the textured oil sand surface brings the strength of this painting back to life.

Here are a few additional photographs of this painting. We took over 30 photos of this painting from varius angles, distances, areas of interest, Mario's Artist Mark etc.

Historic Snowshoes ~ Early California Development

Historic and Rare Early California Snowshoes

ca. 1910-1920s

For Sale & Available

Incredibly Rare Snowshoes!
These are a very rare pair of snowshoes from the early 1900's - 1920's. They are not rare because they are so early, they are rare because of the historical role they played in early California's development and growth through it's early electrical power....generated by melting snow runoff!

Also see a link to early historical photographs online from the Huntington Library, San Marino, California showing Edison Snow Melt Surveyors using snowshoes in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains. Awesome!

These snowshoes were used by S.C.E.CO. (Southern California Edison Co.) employees called 'Snow Surveyors' to determine the amount of snowfall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This information assisted Edison Electric to determine how much snow melt runoff would pass through their early Hydro-Electric Plants. In the 1920's, the Sierra Nevada mountains were still very unpopulated and very wild. It took hardy men to hike up into that wilderness to make these snowfall measurements.
The right shoe is heavily stamped "S.C.E.CO." into the shoe frame identifying Southern California Edison Co. as the owner of this pair of snowshoes. The left shoe is stamped 'KLONDIKE MODEL 11x60 NO.76' which identified the Model of the shoes and the size.

I am the first owner of these shoes outside of the original family that owned them for 80+ years. In 2002, I purchased these from a man in Las Vegas. At that time the gentleman was about 70-75 years old. I asked why he had a pair of snowshoes here in Las Vegas and was told they had belonged to his grandfather who used them in his work in snow in northern California & Nevada. After spending considerable amount of time researching these shoes, I finally understood why the snowshoes were stamped with S.C.E CO.

I didn't know who made these shoes or when, so I forwarded photos to one of the most reputable rare & vintage ski & snowshoe websites on the internet asking for their assistance in determining who made them and when. I figured that if anyone would know about vintage snowshoes or ski's it would be these people. After a few weeks they contacted me and told me the shoes were made by W.F. Tubbs of Norway, Maine in the 1920's. The owners & curators of that website was absolutely great to help me on this.

I then contacted the Curator of Photography for the Huntington Library of San Marino, California where they have 70,000 photographic images of the Southern California Edison Co. from 1887 through 1975. I was kindly provided a link to their photographic collection online here > Southern Cal. Edison Snow Surveyors (Huntington Library). I was also provided with contact information for the Manager of Creative Services for Edison International.

The Manager at Edison International advised they do not have a pair of  'Snow Surveyors'              (ed. Antique or Vintage) Snowshoes in their collection of artifacts & therefore would be unable to provide provenance. He did, however, state that Southern California Edison did in fact use 'Snow Surveyors' during the 1920's and even a few years earlier for their Hydro-Electric plant measurements. He provided me with a direct link to some photographs in the Huntington Library digital collection which showed a photograph and documentation of actual Snow Surveyors on snowshoes.

These snowshoes have a rich history attached to them and would look great on a wall in a cabin, lodge or den (I had them in our den). The shoes no longer have their bindings, but they are nearly a century old, if not older and they don't really need more use. These shoes are now for historical preservation and would not stand up to use. Their next owner will be only the second owner outside the original family.

1930's Pyrene 'CAPITOL' Wheeled Fire Extinguisher

For Sale - local pickup in Las Vegas, NV

Contact if interested.

$130

Additional photos can be forwarded if requested

This awesome antique Pyrene Fire Extinguisher is ready for cosmetic restoration....A very nice heavy-duty wheeled fire extinguisher. Saw one on the internet some time ago after it had been restored and repainted. It looked incredible with the rich red and black paint, a new hose, the brass gauge polished etc....it had an awesome look!

This extinguisher is not for rehabbing back into to a working condition, this is for sale to be restored for visual/display restoration only. The Tank and the large Pyrene Manufacturer Brass label can be polished or paint the tank etc. However a person wants to restore this extinguisher, it will look incredible.

A great feature of this unit, it was made to be inside a building, not wheeled around outside. This unit sits naturally in an upright position and with its smaller wheels, it will fit nicely into a corner of your Man Cave, Living Room, Den etc. ...Mount it on a wall behind your bar after restoring, it would look great! Large wheeled extinguishers from the same era would take up half of the room as they will not fit into a corner with large wheels!

This unit is heavy and with the long upright steel handle, you will need an SUV or a PU truck to take home. We brought it home in our SUV.

Here is a great vintage Gladys Brown Edwards – Dodge Metal Statue. This is not a statue of an imaginary horse, it is a statue of a real horse, a Champion Liberty Jumping Arabian named ‘Ralet’. This sculpted statue is of Ralet jumping!

At the very end of our video noted above, we have included a view of a vintage postcard showing Ralet jumping. Ralet was born on Feb. 25th, 1930 at the famous W.K. Kellogg (of Cereal Fame) Arabian Horse Ranch in Pomona, California. This statue of Ralet was probably made sometime around 1938–1941.

I have shown a book on Gladys Brown Edwards Equine Works in Metal by Carolyn Martin in some of the photographs and video of this statue because she featured 'her own' statue of Ralet on the cover of her book on GBE, also because Carolyn Martin is probably one of the most knowledgeable authorities on GBE’s metal figurine works, especially those of horses. (Book is not included).

The statue is 7-1/2” long overall and 6-1/4” high from desktop to top of ears. When we found this exceptional statue, it had not been taken care of and was extremely dirty and grimy. We cleaned the statue with plain soap, water and a toothbrush. We then applied a coat of baby oil per Carolyn Martin's recommendation in her book (we used unscented baby oil), bringing the statue finish back to a nice rich lustre.

The original felt base and backerboard was in poor condition (see photo & video) and we felt we couldn’t offer this great statue with its base in that condition, so we purchased new high strength backerboard along with new felt and replaced the base.
There are some marks on the base that were acquired during its nearly 80 years of being moved around but they are not serious nor objectionable (at least in our opinion).

The statue has an aged majestic appearance. Normal wear & tear is to be expected on the statue from being moved around & bumped during his 80 years existence, i.e a slight (virtually unnoticeable bump) on his nose, left side (Dodge defect?) etc. This is not a new statue that just came out of a box. It is a rare, vintage statue of Ralet!

The copper flashing showing on Ralets head, mane, tail & other areas that may show bright copper/gold color flashing are part of Dodge’s intentional design and is not a worn surface defect. Carolyn Martin has noted this design aspect in her book as well.

The statue is very well made, weighing 2lbs 11oz!

Political Museum Quality: U.S. State Department Jacket Worn In Historic 1980s 'START' Russia/US Treaty Negotiations

This Jacket is for sale in our Etsy Shop

Background about this 'Very Historic & Very Rare Jacket'!

See the Video on our video site - Click link below

As seen on the back of the Jacket, it has has “NUCLEAR & SPACE TALKS” embroidered (the U.S.Gov't used NST as an abbreviation). The NST talks were a core part of the START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) talks that started in 1982. On the front of the jacket it also has “START” embroidered and a large Capital “N” which stood for “Nuclear”.

We purchased this Jacket directly from a lady who was retired from the U.S. State Dept. She had been stationed in Geneva for approximately 15 years and had been involved in the Nuclear Space Talks…a very interesting person to talk to! The jacket tag shows it is a ‘Medium’, which has to be a ladies medium size as the jacket fits my wife nearly perfect who wears a size 10.

The START program, of which the Nuclear Space Talks were part of, was President Reagan's ‘Strategic Defense Initiative’ program. The NST covered strategic nuclear arms, intermediate-range nuclear forces, defense and space. The Strategic Defense Initiative program was informally called & referred to as “Star Wars” at that time by Sen. Kennedy, a clear reference to the movie 'Star Wars'.

This jacket was a part of incredibly serious talks. Make no mistake or under-estimation of that time period. As I understood that situation, various State Department teams tried very hard for nearly (9) years to maintain an attitude that they could and would overcome the Russian position of hardline negotiations.

Several different American teams were involved in various parts of the treaty negotiations at the same time…Each team was involved in working on a specific Treaty issue. This lady’s team decided they wanted “team jackets”! Each team member had a team nickname & their nickname was placed right on the front of the jacket. Her nickname was ‘Biff’. I asked how she got that nickname and she said for some reason, everyone on her team called her ‘Biff’, so the name stuck (after talking with her for a while, I could see why her nickname was Biff, she was great!).

Some teams had other items to keep their morale going…I have seen a couple of coffee cups for ‘START’, but I have seen absolutely nothing that comes even close to the importance and rarity of this jacket….Some teams even held backyard BBQ’s with their Russian counterparts in an attempt to keep their negotiations on a friendly basis.

In 1983 the Soviets suspended the START talks…but in January 1985, the US and Russia started meeting again in Geneva to set an agenda for the Nuclear Space Talks. In March 1983 serious NST Negotiation talks began once again. President Reagan didn’t trust the Russians and wanted America to always have the greatest strength. Our State Department teams negotiated, worked hard & obtained a treaty.

The START Treaty ‘with’ NST was finally signed by the United States and Russia in 1991. For more information, there is a LOT of information on the internet. Please review the background of the SALT negotiations which started in President Nixon's 1970's which progressed into the 1980's President Reagan START Treaty negotiations...ultimately ending in a 1991 Russia / U.S. Treaty.

Vintage Chinese Rosewood Statue

Here's a strange Chinese Statue carved out of Rosewood. We purchased this in an estate sale and don't really have any idea who the mythical figures were supposed to represent. The statue is unsigned and very heavy (15lbs). The statue is 17-1/2" high x 11-1/2" wide x 9" deep.

Interesting statue, but we don't know anything about it. If anyone is an expert on these figures please drop us a note. I'm just placing a few photos here until I have a chance to put a slideshow together.
